7 Mile Bridge

Boot Key Harbor Marathon to Jewfish Hole Fiesta Key March 16, 2018
28 nautical miles
5 hours half motoring, half motor sailing
Traveled west to center of 7 mile bridge before going under and heading back east on Florida Bay side of Keys.
Anchored 1 night
Ate with friends Andy, Sarah, Chad, Michelle, John, and Michelle at Lobster Crawl just next to anchorage. Afterward played ukulele and sang with the group on Holiday.

Sunset in Tarpon Basin

Jewfish Hole Fiesta Key to Tarpon Basin Key Largo March 17, 2018
30 nautical miles. 58 total since start.
5 hours mostly motor sailing
Passed by Islamorada on The Florida Bay side.
Anchored 2 nights. Not good anchor holding. Multiple attempts before getting a not so decent anchor set.
Beautiful scenic anchorage. Free dinghy dock. Walked around Key Largo and dinghyed around mangrove tunnels on our full day there.

Sailing across Blackwater Sound

Tarpon Basin Key Largo to Narrow Point Barnes Sound March 19, 2018
12 nautical miles. 70 total since start.
2 hours mostly sailing
Sailed across Blackwater Sound and Barnes Sound in nice, light sailing winds from behind.
Anchored 4 nights
Some boat rocking from unexpected south winds ahead of front, then good protection from north winds. Ate at Alabama Jacks multiple times with friends Bob, John, and Michelle. Secluded anchorage. Couple other boats but no one on them.

Alabama Jacks with Bob

Narrow Point Barnes Sound to Long Arsenicker Key March 23, 2018
9 nautical miles. 79 total since start.
1 hour motoring
Short motor across Card Sound to stage for sailing across Biscayne Bay the following day.
Anchored 1 night
Beautiful anchorage. We dinghyed around Long Arsenicker and saw a bunch of small barracuda in crystal clear shallow water. Lots of birds too. Secluded anchorage. Last night in the Keys after spending the whole winter there.

Miami Night View

Long Arsenicker Key to Key Biscayne Bight March 24, 2018
23 nautical miles. 102 total since start.
5 hours sailing
Sailed across Biscayne Bay. Winds were brisk and forward of the beam. Sailed with reefed head sail only, heeling 10-15 degrees. Nice, comfortable sail.
Anchored 1 night
Checked No Name Harbor on Key Biscayne but too crowded with Saturday boaters. Moved around to the Bight. Nice big anchorage with Miami skyline in the distance. Lots of weekend partyers coming and going at sandbar nearby. Also lots of huge, expensive yachts anchored all around us. Cool place.

Oleta Chillin’

Key Biscayne Bight to Oleta River State Park March 25, 2018
14 nautical miles. 116 total since start.
2 hours motoring
Motored right by downtown Miami and cruise ship docks. Some draw bridges that had to open for us.
Anchored 1 night
Beautiful protected anchorage right off ICW. Pretty crowded since on a Sunday, but we arrived early and got a good spot. Lots of good boat and people watching. Inflated the paddle boards and toured all around the rivers and mangroves of the park. Also paddled to beach at park.

Oleta Paddle Boardin’

Oleta River State Park to Las Olas Marina Ft Lauderdale March 26, 2018
14 nautical miles. 130 total since start.
3.5 hours motoring
Motored by huge houses with huge boats at docks of south Florida. Quite a few draw bridges that had to open for us. Lots of boat traffic (some very large) between Port Everglades and marina makes for interesting navigating.
At dock 15 nights
Tied to dock for first time in a long while to leave the boat for a week. The time spent at the boat was hanging out at beach just a block away from marina and eating out. Changed oil and filter of diesel before taking off.
